DLA Piper acts for Pfizer Limited on 10 year lease to Augean Treatment Limited
11 May 2012
DLA Piper has acted for long-standing client Pfizer Limited ("Pfizer") in respect of the grant of a 10 year lease and associated service agreements of the High Temperature Incinerator (HTI) and Solvent Handling Facility at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent to Augean Treatment Limited ("Augean").
The incinerator and associated assets were formerly operated as part of the Pfizer site at Sandwich and now form part of Discovery Park complex. Following a competitive selection process Augean was chosen as the preferred operator for the waste management operations at Discovery Park, which will include the HTI and following a period of due diligence during the first quarter of 2012 agreements were signed on 16 April between Augean and Pfizer.
The agreements include a number of associated facilities in support of the day to day management and operation of the main HTI facility. The HTI is expected to provide capacity to process 10,000 tonnes per annum of waste, in addition it has the ability to recover energy from the process, making the facility the only HTI in the UK with this capability. In addition, Augean will also be responsible for the management of certain waste streams at Discovery Park and will provide waste management services to local business residents at Discovery Park.
Paul Jayson, partner at DLA Piper said: "This is a great deal for Pfizer and we are really pleased to have been involved. In order to meet very tight timescales, we worked intensively to deliver the client an early completion. The plant forms a core part of the community in Sandwich and Pfizer were keen that the best operator was chosen."
The DLA Piper team was led by Paul Jayson and supported by Theresa Hitchcock, Vikki McKay and Matthew Shaw. Walker Morris acted for Augean.
